My friend Willy was complaining to me the other day
that he does not think he will have enough money for retirement. He has a decent
income, a good standard of living, and a lot of creature comforts that are
supported by his current income. He would like to continue enjoying that life
style when the current income stream ends upon his retirement. He wondered
aloud, "how do I get ...

When we are young, we feel that time is on our
side. Not any more.
Our days are a blur of perceived demands from workplaces stretched beyond the
leading edge to the bleeding edge, from technology that allows others to locate
us even in the privacy of our cars and bathrooms, from children and aging
parents who name us and claim us, and from our inability to find options ...
A day in the life of a business person can be
filled with joy and satisfaction or it can be frustrating and stressful. When
things go wrong, some people lose control. Would
you want to have an employee who is extremely good at his or her job but has a
bad attitude or an average employee who has a positive attitude? Experienced
CEOs understand that bad attitudes can reduce the effectiveness of their
organization. Skills can be taught. Attitude is difficult to change.
The importance of reinvesting in your business is
no secret. If you want to remain competitive, you need to ensure you are using
the latest technology, the newest equipment, and are applying the most current
methods in your operations. You are also quite
aware of the importance of a highly skilled and capable workforce that can
utilize these assets and effectively strive to outperform your competition.
Investing in capital is a priority of nearly every company, but what about
investing in your employees?
Would
you want to have an employee who is extremely good at his or her job but has a
bad attitude or an average employee who has a positive attitude? Experienced
CEOs understand that bad attitudes can reduce the effectiveness of their
organization. Skills can be taught. Attitude is difficult to change.People
with positive attitudes are winners. They build an environment that values
employees, suppliers and customers. They think positively. The words don't and
can't are not in their vocabulary.Winners
don't give up. The sad truth about people who give up is they are just as
capable as those who don't. The main difference is their attitude.
You cannot expect your team to be innovative if they do not know the
direction in which they are headed. Innovation has to have a
purpose. It is up to the leader to set the course and give a bearing
for the future. You need one overarching statement which defines the
direction for the business and which people will readily understand and
remember. Great leaders spend time illustrating the vision, the goals
and the challenges. They explain to people how their role is crucial
in fulfilling the vision and meeting the challenges. They inspire men
and women to become passionate entrepreneurs finding innovative routes to
success.
Fortune magazine once published an article entitled
“The Best Advice I Ever Got.” It was a great article that offered wit and
wisdom about achieving business success. I
liked it so much, that it motivated me to produce my newest book,
Leadership—Best Advice I Ever Got, which describes the best leadership advice
136 successful CEOs, coaches, consultants, professors, managers, executives,
presidents, politicians, and religious leaders received that most helped them become
effective and successful leaders.

Leadership is probably one of the most talked about business concepts, but the
least understood. Leadership is about getting things done and helping people
reach their potential. My experience has shown me that most places fail to
unleash the potential of those working within their organization. The reason is
they practice old-fashioned and out-dated leadership concepts--they practice
leadership mythology.A myth is
something that is false, but believed to be true. As in many things in life,
there are several myths surrounding the concept and practice of
leadership. Unfortunately, these myths prevent the most qualified people
from rising to the top. By listing these leadership myths, it is my hope to
dispel many of the false beliefs.
With
more than a decade of experience in marketing, ranking from pay-per-click to
direct mail, I’ve seen a lot of failures and far more successes when it comes
to marketing.Today,
the art of marketing is far more complex than it once was. However, many of the
same basic principles still apply. Too often, professional marketers and small
business owners overlook the basic techniques that have separated successful
campaigns from those that never turn a profit. Here is my all time list of
effective marketing tips.
If you
are reading this book, it is likely that you already know what we mean when we
use the term Total Quality Management. Still, it's a good idea to define the
term, and provide a brief overview.
Certainly TQM can be defined in a number of ways, and the details of
different approaches can vary somewhat. However, a good starting definition,
drawn from Capezio & Morehouse is:
"Total Quality management refers to a management process and set
of disciplines that are coordinated to ensure that the organization
consistently meets and exceeds customer requirements. TQM engages all
divisions, departments and levels of the organization. Top management organizes
all of its strategy and operations around customer needs and develops a culture
with high employee participation. TQM companies are focused on the systematic
management of data of all processes and practices to eliminate waste and pursue
continuous improvement. "
Delegating
is an important tactic, not only to help you with your work load, but
also or developing staff, and creating an atmosphere of employee
empowerment.
1.
Never procrastinate with a performance problem. If you don't address the issue
when it arises, staff will question whether you are doing anything at all.
